I have a customer that built a SIPS home in Eastern North Carolina on the coast six years ago. He is my best supporter in this area, b ut has a serious shingle problem. He used Certainteed shingles on the original construction and they have not held up. The manufacturer says that they are not warrantied over unvented roofs. In Steve Andrews book, he says that Elk warranties over SIP roofs. Are there any others that have now accepted that they can warranty shingles for this use?

Since the book was published a year ago, I haven't heard of any additional shingle manufacturers who have changed their assessment of their products installed over SIPs. I suggest you contact Jim Tracy at SIPA to see if he has any different information (jimt@sips.org).
