FIRST,, THANK YOU ALL FOR THIS VALUEABLE TOOL TO THE SIPS INDUSTRY,,YOU ALL HAVE NEEDED IT FOR MANY YEARS,,, IM ABOUT TO BUILD MY FIRST SIP HOME(AFTER PREPARING AND STUDYING SIPS FOR TWO YRS) AND HOPEFULLY MANY MORE TO FOLLOW. IN REGARDS TO THE ROOFING SYSTEM? LAST MONTH I READ ABOUT HAVING TO USE A BUILT UP ROOF( 2X'S WITH SHEAHING) BECAUSE MANUFACTURERS WONT WARRANTY THIER PRODUCTS INSTALLED DIRECTLY ON THE SIP! CAN YOU INSTALL STANDING SEAM DIRECTLY ON THE SIP? AND IF SO,,, DOES THIS NOT ALMOST EQUAL THE COST OR AT LEAST OFFSET THE COST SO METAL,,,THE SUPERIOR ROOFING,, IS MORE PRACTICAL AND COST EFFECTIVE? LET ME KNOW,, THANKS,, ,,,,,VAN

In a vented roof application, heat buildup is dissapated through the roof and allowed to escape via vents in the roof. On a sip roof, there is no need to ventilate a roof space so heat buildup has nowhere to escape except on the outer surface. This can play havoc with some asphalt shingles and hot-mop applications. Elk Prestique has done some studies and will completly warranty their product and has published this statement via technical bulletins issued by AFM R- Control . Owens Corning use to warranty their roofing product when used on Owens-Corning Panels ( Insulspan), but they have gotten out of the SIP marketplace as far as I know. There are other asphalt mfg. as well. Got to the AFM R-Control website and you can download the Tech Bulletins. A roofing product that will not breakdown due to hot/cold cycling such as metal or tile should have not detrimental effects when place on SIPS.
