I AM  A CONTRACTOR IN SOUTH FLORIDA-I AM WONDERING ABOUT PUTTING TOGETHER A SOLAR POWERED ELECTRICAL HOME. OF COURSE IT WOULD BE HOOKED UP TO THE POWER COMPANY.
 MY QUESTION IS: IS IT FEASABLE TO HAVE PANELS THAT COULD POWER A HOME;IE., RUNNING THE CENTRAL A/C, POOL PUMP, TVS, STOVES, ETC.? WOULD THIS BE TOO MANY PANELS? ALSO, IS THERE ENOUGH POWER TO POSSIBLY SELL BACK THE ELECTRICITY TO THE POWER COMPANY. AND FINALLY-CAN THIS COST TOTALLY UNDER F$5,000.00?
I WAS HOPING SOME SORT OF SYSTEM THAT COULD CREATE APPROX. $200-$300 OF ELECTRICITY EACH MONTH. PLENTY OF SUN-I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT SOLAR, BUT I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THIS.

There are plenty of posts in other, specific forums relating to this subject, and those posts provide even more links to sites that would answer your question.
As far as I have seen, there is nothing from a pure solar product close to providing the output/capability you are seeking for $5000.00.

If you search the board research the existing links, you will find your answer.
Large font, all cap posts will not do it.

I think $5000 may be tough. A good place to start is to collect a copy of the house's utility bill so you can gauge KwHr usage. This can give you a sense of how much you power you need to generate and thus work backwards from there.

The average home uses between 700 and 1100 KWH of electricity. To produce this type of energy with solar panels it's going to run you around $36,000. Things are changing very quickly though and that number is said to around $9000 in a few years based on companies like Nanosolar bringing solar cost down to $1 a watt. $5K is probably way, way off if ever.

Maybe $40,000 for a system. You need to start by conserving as this is far cheaper than solar panels. Sell power back is not a sure thing in Florida. Get a copy of home power magizine and start reading.

Conservation used to be a swear word to me. I dragraced motorcycles, had SUV's etc, etc. My wife helped bring me around by going to library and draggin books home. We went from 900-1000 KWH to 300-500 KWH. The cool thing is, there is no sacrifice at all. Do your homework and you'll see just how needless our wasting energy really is. The only bad thing is the stigma that goes with this stuff, friends think I've lost my mind until I show them how much I'm saving in money.

Just eliminating the phantom loads made a pretty good impact for me. Every little bit helps.

I used to feel the same way about conservationism, but hey whatver helps me keep some money in my pocket esp with the rising gas prices!
