We are going to be building garage/workshop, with an apartment, and want to use ICFs.  My husband is a builder and has gathered info from several manufacturers.  I would love to hear from others, which ones they think are the best.  We live in the San Francisco Bay area, and I know shipping costs are a consideration.  What else should be a factor in determiningg the best product to use?

Also, some of the literature I have been reading suggests that we use a structural engineer who is familiar with a particular manufacturer.  Why would this be important?

Thank you

Lets see... why would an engineer be important.... Two words.... Earthquakes and fires!!!

The good news is that a properly engineered ICF system can help you with both.  ICF's are great for non flammable surface treatments like brick and stucco and with proper rebar integration can withstand earthquakes also.  An engineer will be very helpful in you planning of this project.

Check out Reddi-Wall.com and give them a call.  Bob Martin is the owner and is also and engineer and developer of the entire block system.  Nice guy and always willing to help.  With a lower price point then some of the other well advertised blocks you should be able to get your block on site for less (shipping included) for less then the prices of most of the other systems.

Great system.  Good Luck

Bill

The best ICF for any job. Is the one the experienced installer chooses to use on your job. That they are most familiar with.

Right with CFL-ICF. There is nothing wrong with any of the ICF systems but the guy who installing it. The installer is the key word not the system. Get someone with experience with what they are using. Been doing it almost five years now and still learning something new everyday. All of the systems are pretty good most of the time it comes down to customer service for me. Hope this helps Chuck........
