I have a small job coming up and I would like to try this product http://www.icfconnect.com/. For anyone out there who has used this product,...how did you deal with joist next to a wall where there's no room to fasten from the one side? Unless I am missing something from their site,..they don't address this issue.

Thks..Bunt

You screw in from 1 side only with self-taping screws long enough to go all the way through both plates (either side of floor joist) I have used the system twice. Didn't like it either time, I felt it took too much time. I attach rim board with anchor bolts before I pour. But that is just one guy's opinion!!
Good luck.

I like the anchor bolts with the ledger setup before the pour as well,........just though i'd try something different. Can't do the leger when your doing an 8' wall with 10' bracing though:(  I considered longer screws,..........you'd think they would mention on their website instructions.

Thks again!

You're right, won't work with 10' bracing, my next option would be simpson strong tie, attach rim board after pour.

Buy 8' channels...AB's with ledger then pour...easiest method, helps keep the wall straight, put the hangers on before you even set the ledger...save even more time.

As for the ICFCONNECT prodect, CA doesn't like it...diaphramed floor required...however you can use it for the roof trusses and it is fantastic

We have been using this product for about 3 years now and love it.

At the corners we attach by screwing all the way through but we pre drill the accessable side and the joist, we use their 45deg on all the bay areas.

We made a fixture with two 2x's attached in a L form and install 2 screws on each side for stops, at the joint of the 2x's we cut a slot 1/2" wide so we can see through it, we then pre mark the centers for position of each joist with a permanent marker on the foam, we start at one corner and simple slide the fixture along until it lines up with the center marks and use our jab saw to cut slots on both sides of the homemede 2x fixture from top screw to bottom screw. The screws are positioned a 1/4" closer than the heigth of the bracket so they the bracket will fit snug.

Once we have poured we consolidate at each bracket and final straighten the bracket.

When your floor joist arrive we wrap the hanger stripand screw it to the truss and bend it around, then we attach a 2x4 to the wall screwing it to the ties at the elevation of the bottom of the truss, as the instructions say this should be approx 1" below the bottom of the bracket. We then slide the truss down and let it rest on the 2x4 while we screw the truss to the bracket, then remove the 2x4. You can use a short 2x4 we use a 4' one and move it as we install the truss's.

We have our wall set so that the top of the form is level with the top of the joist, we install metal flashing over lapping the concrete 1/2" across the foam and 4" over the floor joist prior to sheeting the floor joist, this gives us our draft stop as well as a fire barrier from lower foam wall to upper foam wall.

It took us 2-3 jobs to figure this all out but like any new product the guy in the field figures the most efficeint way to do it.

We have not used a rim joist since we started doing the joist with this product and at this time we have about 132 houses that have been done with this product and method.

If you have more ? than I have covered here give me a call I will be glad to walk you through it over the phone. 218-205-1039

Cattail, thanks for the advise!! I have a small job coming up where I cannot install ledger before the pour. I am going to try the icfconnect product.  This job has 11 7/8" I joist and it is basically a box,....so this should be a relatively simple job to experiment with.

Thks.......Bunt

Cattail, do you fill in the 'I' of the TJI with plywood or some other material before you wrap it with the hanger strip?? Glad to see it is working good for you, different strokes for different folks I guess!!!

Yes we do fill in or shim as it where the space of the I joist as it is shown on the web site.

However we very rarely use the I joist in our area mostly old Norskies, Sweds, and Germans, and they are old school and still want engineered truss's to run all of the junk through rather than a false ceiling.

Try as I will to get them into this century it will not change until their children start to build.

Cattail, do you have special ends on the floor trusses? (like a 4x4 or 4x6 instead of a 2x4), or do you not put in any blocking in when you use floor trusses?. (see details attached)

ps when I say blocking I mean adding some "meat" to the end of the truss so there is something to screw to.

I am not sure what you mean but if it is what I think all of our truss's have a double 2x4 plate on the ends, if we are using I joist we do not have a plate on the end
