Hello!

I was pleased to find this forum...looks like just the place to find some advice.

For quite some time, we have been hoping to eventually build an ICF home. However, a home built using ICFs recently went up for sale nearby, and so we're giving it some consideration.

As far as I know, the house was built by an individual as a residence for himself. He actually never completely finished it -- it still has no plumbing, electric, interior walls, etc. But the exterior is pretty well completed...approximately 75% brick, windows, roof, etc.

The fellow who built the home is no longer in the area, so I am unable to ask him for any details of the construction.

I was hoping that all of you could suggest the most critical things to check out to make sure that the place is structurally sound.

Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks!

I don't know what level of construction or structural processes you have, but I would not consider attempting to evaluate any ICF wall without some professional assistance.

Perhaps if you note where you are, someone may be in your area and could help you?

Take Care

Thanks for the response. I believe that there is a contractor in the next county who has some ICF experience. Perhaps he can help verify that everything is in order, even after the fact.

I posted a this question about ICFs on another forum which deals with homebuilding in general, and one person responded that I could possibly have an image scan done of the walls to verify that there are no voids in the concrete.

Anyone every hear of doing this, and who might have such image scanning equipment?

Try Cliff Wilcox (916) 365-6044. He was on a project that was scanned and may still have the contact number for the person who did the scanning.
