Hi all,
Just came across this forum so apologies if my question has been asked
previously.
I am currently at the planning stages of my first home and hope to use ICF for
the exterior walls. This is due to a number of reasons including air
tightness/low U-Value/sound, etc, and that i will be able
to able to erect the system myself thus cutting out the cost of labour on site.
{I was a foreman over a site of 10 houses which used ICF}
Currently there are a number of companies in Ireland with a franchise for ICF
systems - Nudura / Reward / Amvic etc. These are supplying 8" and
6" ICF blocks with only one choice in EPS width of about 2.5" ⏍mm].
I am interested in having a greater width of EPS panel perhaps 4" mm].
So I would be looking for an EPS block with 4" EPS - 8" concrete -
2.5" EPS. This is to up my wall U-Value to achieve PassivHaus standard.
I am interested to know the supply only cost
per sq.ft of any system you may know of, but especially the likes of Nudura as
I can make a direct cost comparison. Due to the sub prime debacle [ hope things
bounce back cos we need big US industry too!!!] the dollar is pretty weak
against the euro Ώ euro -$1.57 today]
so if I can cut out the middle man in Ireland and ship direct from the US it
would be great. [East Coast of the US - New York/Mass/Rhode island/ Conn etc]
If you could also just mention the spec of
the ICF – EPS thickness etc.

Unfortunately in the west here all ICF's (except one, I am aware of) have EPS at equal thicknesses on both the interior and exterior. I have surfed the web looking at European ICF's and did notice that the exterior has a thick EPS.
Go on the column on the left and you will see the various sponsors, one has what you are looking for, but keep in mind you are required to assemble the blocks on site.
As for Canadian/US costs on products each distributor sets his own pricing for his customers. I believe all of the blocks you mention have a local distributor to you, one does for sure. |

chris,
i realise most of the suppliers i mentioned have a distributor local to me, however many of these are just importing the product from an overseas manufacturer and adding their profit margin to the product. I am trying to cut out this 'middle man' and go direct to a usa distributer or usa manufacturer. |

I would try to contact Rory Ahern, of Terra Construction he is doing a massive ICF building in either Ireland or Scotland. He would probably be of assistance. Last I knew his project is 100,000+ sq.ft. His contact information is tahern1128@aol.com, hopefully he doesn't mind me posting this!

Look for Beco WALLFORM. They are from UK. I think they have a isorast licence.

Reddi Form, like the other ICFs
you mentioned, does not offer EPS thicker than 2.5" but we do offer local
production of our 6" core ICF and a solid product. If interested you can learn more about our ICF@

Build Block has ICF production in progress in Ireland and they are using 3" foam if my memory serves me correctly. Go to their web-site and find the Ireland manufacture and see if they are in production yet.

| Consider Integraspec Ire., They are setting up local manufacturing, and the buzz is that they will have the capacity to provide a thicker exterior panel for our Scandinavian friends . |

QuadLock makes two size panels. One is 2.25 and the other 4.25 inches thick. They can be mixed in any combination to create R22, R32, or R40 walls. You can see them at www.quadlock.com.
Another option would be to use windlock screws to add additional foam to any foam form. This might actually be a cheaper option if the labor rate isn't too bad. Also, Nudura makes something called ceiling technology with furring strips built in that might work well in a siding application if you need addtional connection points. |
