Hey Bryan, if it's an option, often generating your own work is the best way to stay busy locally. You make your own market and let them chase you. If you live in an ICF structure and show potential clients some of the benefits, that gains a lot of trust. And gaining trust is a huge plus when you are asking people to spend more on a "newfangled" method of construction. Business owners, architects, engineers, homeowners really just want a warm bear hug that their rear isn't hanging in the breeze.
A few willing and well trained GC's or ICF distributors will make a big difference in time, it's the repeat sale/install that really generates income....Think of ways to give the GC incentive to treat you right and use you again.
I choose to work cheap and do a little bit more of the work and less of the homeshow circuit. Homeshows have developed invaluable leads in the past, but are tiring and I don't like working Sundays.
In a new market, often people need time to change/adapt there thinking, in some areas you are working against mindset; they may rather live in a mobile home with a big screen tv in tornado alley... Spend your energy where it is well spent, this especially includes finding out who you loyal ICF manufacturers/distributors are.
The energy to solicit, coordinate, fullfill a job when weather allows and still be available for trades to see the total project to be cost effective after the install can be exhausting. Sometimes I like to do some old school carpentry/excavating to get me out of the ICF circuit a bit and clear my head. We have to remember ICF may not change the world, it's just a better option most don't see as viable.
It can be a tough deall, working with multiple manufacturers (most want to own you) and providing infallible service (often hard to meet expectations of consumers on an emotional "green building save money go fast ouch why is ICF more money than modular" high
Although not always easy, ICF construction is definitely work worth doing. Cause you have to do something, and be great at it...
