We have bought a house that has 7 zones of radiant heat using cables sandwiched in the sheetrock. The thermostats are 240V but we would like to upgrade them to thermostats that have a digital read out and aesthetically match the house, which is a contemporary architectural home. A programmable thermostat would be great but I have been told there are not any 240V residential thermostats that are programmable for this system. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think you asked the right person. There *must* be programable thermostats that would work with this. Ask at a reputable HVAC supply house (not a Menards or Home Depot) - or do a search on the net - go to Google and search for "programable 240V thermostat" - my quick search yielded a number of matches.
