We have a house built in the 1950's with radiant heat installed in the ceiling. A crack which developed several years ago has started significantly increasing in size over the past few months and also began splitting laterally at the end. At its' lowest point, the wire mesh has separated from the rafters by 6" and we are worried about the pipes breaking. We stabilized the situation by placing ceiling jacks supporting beams under the worst area but are debating what to do next.
Is there a way to pull up the wire mesh, keep the gypcrete intact and support the ceiling without putting in posts or do we have to pull it out altogether. The crack is in a large room with no supporting posts. Any advice or previous experience would helpful.
