I installed my own system on the underside of the sub-floor, 1300 sq foot ranch. Drilling the holes is the easy part and if done correctly will not compromise the structural integrity of the floor. My layout was fed and returned down the middle of the house then the loops were fed outboard from there. This allowed me to drill the holes directly above the bearing beam, unfortuneatly my joists were lapped where they met over the beam, so I had to drill through 3" for each hole. Get yourself a good quality (low torque) right angle drill with 1 1/4" self feed bit. Hardest part is clearing out the basement to have room to work, perhaps you're not married to a pack rat. Good luck.

rule of thumb holes in joists should not be greater then 1/3
the depth of joist
d= actual depth of joist top to bottom
d/3 = maximum hole diameter
keeping in mind that the hole should be in middle third of your joist with a 2 in. min. from top and bottom of the joist dont worry to much hope that helps and its not to late .
