Davee, The legalett link was interesting, thank you. I am still investigating what type of heating system would be best. I was considering an open system, (whole house hot water). And was looking at the performwall product. I will be doing this myself with some hired help in So. Cal. USA.
Davee, the other link that you sent was a link to the ICF that you used. Please tell why you chose these 2 types.

For those that read this, please give your xperiences and ereasons, and if it was a cost reason, please give the percentages of savings etc.

This is not a troll nor a plee for sales pitches. What I am looking for is real life experiences to gleen from to aid me in my up comming project.

I am looking forward to hearing from YOU.....sl

I am using the Legalett system with whole house hot water. In fact I have a loop split off the feed to the Legalett which puts hot water past each hot water tap for instant hot water. This is really a nice touch. I use a propane hot water tank of 42,000 BTU/hr to handle all hot water needs . The house is a walkout lower level (Legalett)1120 sq ft in a very cold climate. It is important to not oversize the heating unit as you want it to run for long heating sessions rather than waste heat up the chimmney on every off. My upper floor is heated with a freestanding fireplace . Both appliances are direct vent.
Why Legalett -- cost -- I did a lot myself although they typically want a qualified installer or at least a profeesional to guarantee installed according to drawings. Also long power outage protection from freezing -- you can "coast" for days. I run the lower level at a base temperature of about 60F & boost when inuse with electric portable units . This appears to be saving even more this winter both Electric & propane taken into account.
I can russle up a spreadshett allowing you to consider what heat source is most economical if it will help you.
Please consider registering on this site for more help than is given to occasional guests
I will cover ICF choice separate
Legalett are not likely to have a rep in California -- pay my way & I'll come down --LOL
What would I do different-- Probably fuel oil hot watewr boiler / hot water combined unit of higher effiency but only becuase in our climate we do alot of heating

Why ICF -- Best approach, fast construction , able to do a lot yourself

Choice -- IntegraSpec -- looked life a quality product ,proven reputation, and likely to produce the staightest poured wall with the interlocking inserts between rows. Local contractor use Arxx & Nudura & another brand?? . They all wanted all the work - no sweat equity by me - & price was higher than I expected.
So I looked around & found further away a supplier of IntrgaSpec which I had seen at a show . We worked out a deal where I picked up most of the load & he brought the rest on his truck with framing . This saved a truck & driver & allowed me to work with a new to ICF contractor for the bull work . The contractor gave a good price as he was interested in adding these skills. Excluding the travel with foam I was able to put in about 80 hours of my own labour setting up blocks, building window bucks , placing reinforcing etc . It went very well

Davee thanks for the info, My first sook at ICF was ARXX. The second was RASTRA. I like the expanded 'bead' and weight aspect. I will do the 'loop' to add instant hot water as well. I am a building inspector for the state, so there won't be a problem with the engineer w/me doing most of the construction.
Again, thanks for the info. Right now I have to log off, as they are locking up the office, and I don't have my keys w/me. I'll be back.....sl

Legalett have a new to North America version of the heating which reduces installed prices substantially -- using a 5" slab instead of 8" The site has only the old cost comparisons for now. There system has been perfected over 28 years of use in Sweden
