I have already put my subfloor down and am planning on pouring 1"1/2 of portland cement over the radiant heating. I now I need a barrier between the concrete and the subfloor. What should I use? Also i understand i need to put expanding joints in to prevent cracking. Is there anything else I should do to help a better outcome?

Surely the supplier of your system has recommended practises? Please follow them so Radiant does not get a bad name. Too many THINK they know enough to do the job & foul it up.

Use 30# felt as barrier. Mix 1 Part Portland cement with 3 to 4 parts sand. Mix very dry the mix should be moist not wet. Use 1” dia. galvanized pipe as secreting glides. Tamp the mixture and secrete off using the pipes as a glide. You can use wire mesh for reinforcement if desired. Remove the pipes and fill the holes while mixture is still uncured.

Glen I am a little confused? I thought the pea gravil or 1/2 gravel is what gives the concrete its strength. I dont understand using 1" galvanized pipe as secreting glides or tamp the mixture and secrete off using the pipes as a glide. Could you please explain.
thanks
