We have a room that is below grade. In the past the room has been warm, but the floor cool. We have a gas wall heater. The floor had rigid insulation under plywood and a mat and rubber carpet underlayment over the plywood.

We are in the process of foundation work and will be pouring a new concrete slab so we have the opportunity to revisit warming the floor. We're considering radiant heat. We don't need to heat the room from the floor. But we would like a warmer floor as we do yoga and exercises on the floor.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any radiant heat product must "obey" certain rules regarding spacing to avoid heat striping . While you can work with a low temperature in the system, the installation cost will approach that of an independent system. Could yo just heat small areas using electric?

I would concur that if you are not tying into an existing hydronic system, I would consider electric for a small add on like this.
