My wife and I are planning to build a modular log home (Blue Ridge Log Cabins).  We are pushing their envelope since modular mfr.'s are not really set up to do custom work.

Since we first spoke with them we have asked about prow front and metal roof options.  A year ago both answers were no.  Now they "can do" both.  We also asked about self cleaning galss for the two story front window array.   They took our research, contacted the three mfr's we knew of and now offer that option.

We are contemplating geothermal powered radiant heating for the first level (concrete pad, Superior Wall TM structure on which the log modules will rest) as well as for a 24' x 20' by 10' poured concrete "bunker" built into the slope behind the house site.  We would use closed loop technology for harvesting/returning the heat of the earth.

Anybody done anything like this?  If so, please let me hear from you.

In addition we are trying to find a way to install heat collector coils under the metal roof for use as a hot water heat source supplemented by a tankless water heater.  Planning on putting solar collector cells on the outside of the roof or on the slope in front of the house pad for electric power.  Lot faces S by SW.  Again, anyone with knowledge/experience of such a system please advise.
