I am ready to prepare my underfloor tubing installation and have two quick questions (I tired the search without any success ...)

  1. What diameter hole do you drill in the joist to go from one bay to another and how deep from the floor to you usually drill it
  2. I have read that I should put some protection of some kind inside the hole in order for the pex tubing not to rub on the wood when it shrink/expand -> what should I use that is easy to find (I was thinking wire loom ...)

FYI, I will be using joist track and my joist standard 2"x8"

Thanks,

Geoff.

As small a hole as possible and as near center, vertically, as possible. Definitely not near the top or bottom of the joist. That's where the greatest stress is.

Also near the ends is better than in the center of the span.
