I am interested in a horizontal loop, closed loop geothermal heat pump with desuperheater for use in South Louisiana.  Average humidity is 90%, and summer is only slightly cooler than Death Valley (but feels much hotter because sweating does not work).  It has only snowed here twice in my life. I have worn shorts for Christmas and water ski'd in January with no wetsuit, though it can get down to 15 degrees F on rare occasions in the winter.  We have lots of rain and high clay content soil (I'd have to drive 150 miles to see sand much less a rock).  I would like to do the trenching myself.  I do not think radiant floor heating is needed here - just basic heating, cooling, and dehumidifying.

Besides the obscene cost and the difficulty in finding contractors, what are going to be the considerations and problems I will need to take into account for my area if I go with GHP for a new ICF house.

Thanks

Send me a PM & I'll send you the name and number of a friend of mine who installed a water to air GHP from Water Furnace in his new stick house about 3 years ago. He's in Jackson, LA.

Building house - what a way to spend retirement!
