I signed the contract and put down the deposit today for a new geothermal system, replacing two existing furnaces. In 2-3 weeks, our front yard will be a moonscape as the drillers figure out where to put six holes a sufficient distance from sewer, water, gas, electric, phone, cable--holy cow, are there really that many different rights-of-way crossing my lawn? With luck, two weeks after that we will have a pair of WaterFurnace heat pumps, and incidentally replacing almost everything else mechanical in the basement. We may even have a freshly landscaped yard by that time. And with a little more luck, 18 months hence we will get a check from Uncle Sam for 30% of the cost. Knock on wood.

Sorry, no check... It's a tax credit, not a tax rebate.

Good luck with your system. Keep educating yourself about geothermal on this forum and on the geoexchange forum. It will help insure your install is done right.
