I know this is a loaded question and has a myriad of variables, but as a new member here I took some time to read through most of the forums and it seemed like people who were quoting the cost per sq ft they were paying was much lower that what other sources have been telling me.
Here's my situation.
I live in NW washington state and am looking at building a 1500 sq ft stawbale house. This will be 1 story on a slab foundation with a timberframe / post&beam structure. Probably SIPS / standing seam aluminum for the roof (12/2 pitch) Concrete floor, minimal trim, but good windows and doors. I'll do as much of the work myself as I can (am taking time out of my woodworking business to do this).
I have a number of friends in the building business and they as well as a Natural Home Architecture firm in Seattle have all said $200/sq ft in the price to expect for good construction. I know that "building it myself" is a savings thats hard to put a number on, but it seems like a number of people at this site have done this.
So I'd be interested in what people have experience in the recent past or are experiencing now.
Thanks much, I've learned quite a bit from these forums already!
Carl
