Has any one changed brand of blocks in the middle of a job? I am using Iceblock brand and I like them but I need to order more. As this is my first job with ICF's I was wondering what the differences from brand to brand would be? Most manufactuors claim theirs is superior to the others. I was just going to order another brand to see how I liked them. Any body do this before or am I asking for trouble?

Let's see, to name a few....

Ener-Grid to Rastra,
AAB to Formtech,
Formtech with AMVIC
Eco to AMVIC
GreenBlock with Quad-Lock
ConForm with Quad-Lock,
Greenblock with Formtech

probably more that I don't recall. There are a variety of reasons to change, most of the time it has to do with pricing and delivered quantities of product. They will all work (differently) to get to the end product...an ICF house

I have used a "panel & tie assembly" system
for the first course, and made the transition
to the block system on occasion quite effectively. I found that when scribing to rock, the contour was better transfered to each individual peice, placing them both in position-and then cutting them level across the top. Then simply cut notches for the ties and place the blocks on top,and glue them in place. The panels used are 8' long and spans the jagged ups & downs in the rock
-hope this helps. Take care,sincerely.C.Kerr

Hey a blocks a block! Well almost. We have used up leftover blocks in footing walls after we changed form companies. Even though the forms were of a different size both height and width. just set footing at a different height. We have used Amvic forms to finnish of a Reward wall. We just sawed of the interlocks and glued the form with enerbond no one even noticed the differance. But take care here your are on your own. If you understand how both forms work you should have no problems. You may need additional bracing.
