I would think the PCA may have info for your inquiry, or the ICFA
Try checking inwith them for info they gather regarding ICF's

The industry trade statistics paint by numbers portrait? If the Portland Cement Assn has these numbers nailed down, who did they nail them from? Since when did the ICF manufacturers start publishing their overall sales figures? Is this the type of information that is shared at some of the "industry behind the closed door meetings"? I sure hope not.

Is the mission of the ICFA to keep tabs on the industry trade figures? Who sold what to whom and for how much, in what market place and for how long? I sure hope not.

Marketing Companies usually get paid big bucks to track industry trends and tag the statistics for the "free market"?

If the Portland Cement Assn. is keeping track of all the paint by numbers schemes, then what really is the role they play within this industry? They promote concrete.
The sales of it, the use of it, the design of it, everything. Does the timber industry trade Assn.keep track of who is using how much paper or the bulk of pulp used in the production of paper products? Does the timber trade Assn groups pitch the top three manufacturers products in their industry just to drive a market place?

A few years ago, one of the larger companies within this industry paid a very well respected Marketing Firm to look at this industry and its potential, and I doubt very much if their board of Directors would be pleased with a bias report of "insider" information. Maybe, just maybe, this top fortune 100 company was a little smarter than the average bear when it came to the paint by numbers scheme.... If you want information, you get what ya pay for. Free means just that...Free......What if the back door meetings are trading figures? I sure hope not!

Chris,

The numbers are hard to come by and it's one of those things that the industry is working on. I believe the ICFA/PCA releases shipment data to its members at its semi-annual meetings, but it consists of member data only. Same thing for geographic and application data...

From what I've heard, the figures, in US dollars, range from $50-$100 million in manufacturer's sales (not retail). This works out to be about 25-50 million sq.-ft if you assume the price of $2/sq.-ft. These are hardly numbers to brag about but we have to start somewhere.

I'd be interested in any data that others can provide...

I think you missed the point of the referral to other sources. The question was slanted in a direction which did not require more of an answer than given.......
1. American dollars??? Why be specific about this
2. How big in the US? See #1
3. Percentages? Looked like someone doing a college paper wanting references and figures provided without effort. It sure would not be someone wanting to start up a new ICF company.
4. How do you define segment? Commercial, residential, rural, light industry, etc.. or types of blocks or systems??
5. Anyone in the industry could find enough generic info from easily available sources. The PCA & ICFA do put out some figures, but they are representing the concrete industry and helping promote and provide info showing the growth of ICF's. There bottom line is Sell more concrete and forms, but they don't care whose brands!! Info is available from many reading sources if someone takes the time to look. Where else would I have determined that the New England market is only 4.2% of the ICF market?? I think from PBF mag.

I'm believe you missed the "simplicity" of the question before you took off!!

Jim,
When a question is asked about marketshare and the bulding type percentages, dollar volume in US dollars, and what is the fastest growing segment, I doubt this information is as easy to find as you make it sound, especially accurate information. The National Assn of Homebuilders and R.S. Means Data also keeps statistics on housing starts, market segments, etc. I know for a fact, sometime ago, the Census Bureau called wanting to know what a concrete house was built for in US dollars and how the value was established? I refered them to N.A.H.B. Research Dept?

Nonetheless, your point is well taken, and my point is well made.

Take Care,

David

I agree with you that the most pertinent and accurate info will not be easy to find. Any one can find info at this time slightly? slanted toward promoting the ICF effort. Any mfg that wishes to tell all is OK with me, however that type of info is not what I personally need. That is why I thought the question was presented by someone not really in the industry!
