I am trying to sort through all the hype of steel vs. wood vs. ICF's vs. SIP's. I need to build a 2500 sq.ft. house in the Corona area. What is the most inexpensive way to build. What is the usual sq.ft. cost by using SIP's in this area? Is it better to use wood trusses or steel trusses to finish the roof? I'm a novice at construction. My only experience was working construction as a teenager. Also, does it matter whether you use a slab foundation vs. C block? What do you charge for designing a home. Also, I'm in a wheelchair; so I have special concerns about turning radius' and door openings being wide enough. I would appreciate any information you can provide. I have a working budget of approximately $110,000. Is it possible to build this size structure if my family and friends do part of the work? Robert Shepherd brotherbuckeye@yahoo.com

| A modestly built home in our area will average around $75 sq ft. Even if your friends could account for $25 sq ft for labor, you would still be at $125k. |

YES! A local veterinarian did better than the $44 a square foot you are hoping to limit your cost to. His project costs did not include land, or the FREE labor of family and himself to stack and pour the walls, install the windows and siding, and put up the roof trusses and sheathing. The rest was subcontracted. The home includes new gas Thermodor stove, Corian contertops, tile baths, trash compactor, and all the rest of the top-of-line accessories. 40 x 40 two-story with 9' ceilings main and second floor. Beautiful home! His TOTAL cost was $39 a square foot. Your 2500 sq ft home would run $97500. Less than your budget with no expense spared. The veterinarian used Reddi-Form, loves the product, had no problems, and saved approx. 30% over the other competing ICF products available locally. By acting as your own contractor and getting some help froim your friends, yes you can build this home with the money you have.
