This weekend it was very windy and cold here in Michigan. I went around all my windows and doors with low expanding foam. As I was standing next to a window talking with the wife, I felt a small draft against my hand. I looked closely at the window to see where it was coming from and couldn't find the hole or void, so I went around the window again with foam. I then made it a point to go around every window and door with a feather to find any drafts.
I am amazed at how many little voids are around windows and doors. I am very confident that there will be no drafts around the windows and doors now.
After I finished with taking care of the drafts, I went down the road where a stick frame house is in the same phase of construction as mine. I took my trusty feather with me to check around the windows, doors and electrical boxes. On every window and door and about 50% of the boxes I could detect a draft!
I think the quality of icf's vs stickframe is quite obvious here. I am still living in an apartment, but I can't wait to get in the ICF home!

In case anyone missed it, the key here is "Low Expanding Foam"!! I generally do a prefill around the windows, then go back and redo them after the first fill has set.
When using the wrong foam pushes against the window and door frames you will have to cut it to release the pressure; therefore putting the crack you filled right back!!

Excellent point James E.
I used two different types of foam while building to experiment & found that the LOW expanding foam made for windows & doors works very well. The low expanding foam has a tighter cells when expanding etc.
