Has anyone experience with using ICF waffle style pattern, above ground? I have a Springfield MO project we are preparing a proposal on that the owner asked for my opinion on continuing the ICF's to the gables. (single story) The area is in tornado alley and he's looking for additional protection. For instance, can the mud be placed in one pour? or will the pressure be too great. We will use metal floor joists which I would like to tie into the pour, sheath and use as a working platform as we pour. I deck with 1-1/8" ply so the weight is pretty substantial. Would I have to crib the joists or would the ICF's bear the weight of the joists, decking and scaffolding? The owner wants hardi-board siding to resemble clapboarding. Does the ICF foam act as a sufficient vapor barrier to prevent moisture accumulation. I would appreciate any help Jim
1 Yes , I have used waffle above ground, Didn't like it.
2 Gable pours with the wall are not to hard if you pour at a 41/2" slump and internally vibrate correctly.
3 Pouring a deck wall and Gable all at once? I have done it and it is faster but not some thing I would recommend for the novelist icf stacker.
If your talking about the basement and 1st floor walls and gable all at once NO I would not try that one.
Others have talked about the vapor barrier and will let that one lay.
Hope that helps,
