I believe I will start putting a capillary break on the footing to prevent wicking into the wall. Any thoughts? What to use?

Brad,

Do you use a keyway or rebar dowels to tie the wall to the footer?  I would think that it would be difficult to install a membrane between the footer and wall if there is a keyway or dowels in the way.  There might be a spray on membrane that you could use.

The code official in my area allowed us to install a waterproofing membrane under and beside the footer.  Would this work for you also?  With this method there was nothing in the way to work around.

I use a keyway footing. How do you anchor to the footing if you don't use either? I am thinking of a brush on product. Anybody use Thoroseal?

I used Fastfoot fabric forming under my footing.  Keeps the moisture out of the footing so it can't rise up the wall.

Brad,

We installed the waterproofing membrane in the bottom and sides of the trench before the footer was placed.  With this system either keyways or dowels or both can be used to tie the footer to the wall since the membrane is below and beside the intersection.  This is very similar to using Fastfoot to form the footer.

I use a housewrap to bag the footing. I don't see how you can keep moisture from getting into the footing.

Smartwall,
Do you do a capillary break? How much wall can you pour at the same time as the footing?

I use Fab-Form when the excavation looks like it will have water problems. I also increase the amount of stone under footings when needed. We just poured a 9'4'' with a walkout basement for a total of 13'4''.
