We have always used felt paper for a water barrier when using Dug-Fur for buck material. I know Ian G. has used the "peal-and-stick" membrane for the same effect. Do you think we could use a simple coating of Thompson's Water Repellant product to achieve the same effect? I had a home owner ask and I didn't have the answer. What's your opinion on this guys?

No. Thompson's doesn't create a membrane..it is a "paint". The wood may still crack and check, leaving plenty of leeway for the beginnings of rot and mildew. Don't ignore the possibility of sweating behind the wood buck since the concrete should in theory maintain a smaller temperature fluctuation range. For the money, I'd go with the treated wood, vinyl, or wrap the untreated with a membrane.

We use wood when the customer says to use wood. We don't refuse to install ICF because the customer chooses wood bucks.

When using the peel n stick membrane, do you use any other adhesive or does the glue base on the peel n stick hold okay?

The membrane usually sticks by itself without the use of primer. We sometimes use staples along the edges (not in the center where the concrete would be).
