I've never built with SIP, but you're going to have a hard time convincing me you could ever cut their costs to be anywhere close to 2x4. There was a SIP house going in down the street in our development and it was a joke. And the builder says he's done almost twenty of them before. There was waste everywhere they cut out a window. They had workers scratching their heads
for longer than my crew gets for lunch. When I heard the cost of the material I nearly went through the roof. So go ahead and tell us what great things are going to make this cheap enough that the average Joe who earns 40 thou a year will go for it. Contractors around the country are waiting with
baited breath.

The problem is not the panels it"s the panel system. Every house has windows and electric so panels that do not have these as standard and part of there system will create a problem. Find a panel company that will give you a house rather that a stack of panels and you WILL see a marked improvement. Pat thermocore panel system.

P.S. Our panel system saves more that it will ever cost so our average Jou making 40K a year lives like a guy making 80K a year. I also offer the chalange to any builder any time to have our system and crew go agianst ther crew for speed, waste on the job site and over all quality. Pat Thermocore Panel System.

Dear Baited Breath
I have 35 years of experience and have built at least 5000
stick framed homes in my carrer of every size and discriftion. I have been doing sip for the last year and have errected my homes in a days time making the front page of the newspaper both times , Don"t judge the system because of one experience that may lack PPPPP(Proper Preperation Prevents ****** Poor Performance) And if my crew was standing around they would be down the road. I can put any like home up in half the the time you can a stick home while your straightening studs and putting your simpson ties in.

You cannot compare sips to 2x4 construction. It is hard to compare 2x6 construction to sips but we have done that and they definitly outperform 2x6 framing.
It is not fair to watch a crew do this and say everyone builds with SIPS in the fashion you describe. Think of it this way.
If you built your cabinets on site the amount of machinery and the end product would be a far cry from shop built cabinets. If you made a mistake and had to dismantle the cabinet, it would be costly and time consuming not to mention frustratiing. SIPS are similar.
A factory pre-fab'd panel package is made to go up fast and accuratly. You can easily make adjustments but hopfully these are owner related changes and not mistakes from the panel company or builder.
I have done several sip homes for the average joe blow who makes 40K. The live in a comfortable home, use a fraction of the propane their neighbors use and rarly turn on the AC in the summer. I would like to give myself the credit for smart and intelligent design and good construction, but I also have to give credit to using SIPS. Well I made that decision so I will give myself the credit. Try it. Learn from it. Costs are not equated only in$ but in quality and comfort as well. It does not take a brain scientist to do SIPS, just a little forethought and patience.
