I would like to hear from other SIPS builders/fabricators from other parts of the country, a report on the costs per ft/2 for SIPS. Lets keep this simple and accurate. If you can reply as to what you are paying for a 4 1/2" panel per ft/2 and whether or not this panel is code approved (ICBO, BOCA, SBCCI)
For example We have three panel mfg's that are allowed in California ( due to a transportation tax and a greedy small business attitude in this state). I can buy an R-Control panel 4 1/2" core for 2.35 per sq. ft. Premier will sell to me for 2.50 ft.sq and Precision I don;t know (but should). These are pricings prior to markup. Panels are EPS with 7/16" skins. I know the East Coast guys buy for less than this, and I would like to know if it is due to more acceptance or just mfg. greed. I would definitly like to get a handle on this. Thanks

Ed - This is a good topic because its not like the lumber yard where you can compare 2x material with the next yard. As the middlemen in a SIP project we need to know what our friendly competition is doing. Here in Kansas we have an R-Control outfit, Contour Products, and then its a long way to Premier, Fischer or others. Premier will sell me 4 1/2" material for 2.25/ sq.ft and .50 more for the next two sizes. They make it sound like this is a good deal for me to try to open up the market here but by the time I add shipping, even with some of their subsidy it's a pricey deal.
I don't see costs coming down but stability counts for something and prices have been stable, right?
For guys that do the volume you do it would seem like a logical step to negotiate a price break after so many sq.ft. You shouldn't pay the same as mom and pop but it seems like you really do.
Information is knowledge so I'm glad you brought this taboo subject out into the light. Mike
