I am living in central VA (God's country) and I am very interested in Geothermal. Madison County only allows close loop. I Have  several acres of land. House to be bulit is 69'X49" and will have about 2800sq finished. Two floors each have  2270 sq footage potential but we can't afford to finish all the down stairs at building time, only some.  The lot is partically wooded and trees will have to come down. With that said I have been reading coiled vice straight lines, vertical vice trench, types of piping etc... It seems that I need to narrow down all the info just to be able to make some decisions. We will have professionals do it and take over the house after framing and the roof on.  We will have at least 2 zones (up stairs and down) and plan to have flash heaters for the bath and kitchen sinks.
It gets hot (90's summer) and cold below freezing in the winter (usually not for weeks on end like some places). I know geothermal is expensive (2 years ago I was quoted $19K) and my husband is 60yrs and I am in my 50's. I am concerned about the pay back and also we have power outages out in the country alot (if there is a storm everyone fill their bath tub with water). So I plan to move my 16KW b.up generator to the new house. With all this said I understand the basics of the system but need some advice on where to go from there. any comments pls
Thanks ahead Lisa

Since you have to do closed loop, you'll get the best efficiency and least amount of maintenance with an EarthLinked DX geothermal system.

Call Monte Jefferson, he's the sales rep for your area. His info is:

Home Energy Inc., HVAC
302 E. 3rd Street
Wendell, North Carolina 27591

www.ruwarm.com

phone: 919-366-0261

Most likely, you'll find EarthLinked DX is also the lowest price for a closed loop system.
