Hello,
Perhaps I've used the wrong search terms so I apologize if I'm asking an old question. Located in southern CT and interetsed in converting to geothermal heat pump. Current system is oil fired forced hot air/central AC. Is it possible that existing duct work is amenable to heap pump conversion? I'm willing to continue to use oil to augment for very cold days. Can someone direct me to relevant links?

Thanks!

Try Heatspring and IGSHPA for possible installers near you.

Existing ducts can help a great deal - problem may be that ducts are insufficient for the volume of air needed for geo heating as geo heated air is not as hot as others. Only way to find out for sure is via Manuals J and D calculations

Your installing contractor will be a good source of information regarding your duct work. Get 2 or 3 opinions/estimates and let us know if their is great disparity in them, otherwise go with the home town opinion.
Regarding supplemental heat, electric is less expensive as it can augment where your geo system must shut down if oil fires up.
