Cost per ton is an incorrect measure for any type of comparison. You could maybe compare cost per ton of all 2 ton heat pumps, but not a 2 ton vs. a 5 ton. Example: the list price of the basic heat/cool EarthLinked 2 ton is $5,328.00, or $2,664 per ton. However, the 5 ton lists at $6,202.00, or $1,240.40 per ton. On a per ton basis, this is a HUGE difference.
As for pros/cons of different DX manufacturers, this topic was discussed here on this thread: http://greenbuildingtalk.com/Forums/tabid/53/forumid/13/postid/34354/view/topic/Default.aspx
For 5 manufacturers, which do you know of?
I know of EarhtLinked Technologies, Earthsource-Energy, and ECR Industries (not to be confused with the previously named ECR Technologies, now EarthLinked). Earth To Air is one that has come up, but I still haven't seen that they are actually manufacturing product. Nordic is Canadian, if that's another, too. ECR Technologies, as far as I know, is somewhat copying EarthLinked Technologies' heat pumps. I don't know their track record, though. Nordic's seems to be somewhat viable. I haven't heard one way or the other on Earthsource-Energy's product. They used to be American Geothermal. |
