Looks like we have been short changed.
In our contract it read we were supposed to get 4,200 ft of horizontal loop and as it turns out we received 3,000 ft however we are told that is enough for a 5 ton unit .
Does anyone know the value of 1,200 ft of geothermal loop and how many $ of labour would be involved to install another 1,200 ft?

Too many variables to be able to accurately answer over internet. "We are told" needs to be backed up with engineered design of loopfield.

Regardless, the extra 1200 feet would almost certainly improve system capacity and efficiency. Insist upon its installation.

More to the point, what is the value of the 1.200 feet that you got shorted on initial contract? If I bought a fence to go around my property, and it stopped 2/3 of the way? finish the fence or give me a refund.

Can someone tell me typically how long it would take the ground to completely settle after a horizontal loop has been installed and how much higher the EWT will get because the ground has settled?

I think it depends upon rainfall - lots of rain consolidates soil more quickly. Permeability of the soil probably has an effect as well - sand would be fast, clay slow.

Just had 3 nights around -25C to -30C.....We keep temperature at 68 degrees F or 20c......I have auxilaury turned off....Temp went down to 66 degrees F at the coldest point of the night and held then gradually came up in 2nd stage to 68 in mid morning.
How's that for performance..... Not sure?

Given your spelling of "labour" I infer you are in Canada, eh? Where specifically?

If you got through this cold snap w/o aux and only 2 degrees below SP, you are probably OK. That said, what about the 1200 additional feet of loop? It needs installation (perhaps next spring) or a refund for the difference. I dare say with it you would have made setpoint through the snap and probably would have saved a few hour$ of unit operation.

You said it...I am from Canada.. you are right ....we need a refund or loop however with the minimum amount of loop prescribed for the unit I am pretty happy with the perfomance I think....Can't believe how cold it has been
