I currently have an Aprilaire 8346 (heat-pump/non-programmable) stat running my Earthlinked 4 ton DX system here in Michigan. This stat gives you the adjustments of 1 to 3 degrees (in 1 degree increments) from setpoint, when to  have the system kick on. It does not give you the opportunity to adjust when the Auxilliary heat kicks on. It seems to kick on the Aux heat after the sytem has been running for so long and has not reached the set point.
Does anyone know if there is a heat pump stat out there that gives you the following programming options:
1. Adjustment from setpoint to at least 3 degrees, in 1/2 degree increments would be nice.
2. Programmability as to when the aux heat comes on, like if the system has been running for 45 minutes and the setpoint has not been reached, then kick on the Aux heat.
3. Cycle rates per hour. Let's the user program how many times an hour the system can cycle.
Any feed back would be great!

Lennox's signature series stat does this. We love it. It comes with an outdoor sensor for backup heat determination, (balance point setting).

Honey well prestige , 1st and 2nd stage controlled by return and supply sensors and diff
in other words if 1st stage is giving you a 20 split and temp is 1-2 degree off setpoint it will stay in 1st
if its 10 it will upstage to 2nd ( also will upstage automaticly if the temp drops )
the wireless outdoor temp locks out aux ( 5 year battery ) above an adjustable balance point
single zone can use remote controll to take over room temp sensor or just adjust temp
zoned system remote can not take over stat sensor but can adjust all house stats
you can upload graphics animations pictures of you family to its backround

I think the SD is just as good as the HD model but the price diff isnt much
Also known as the worlds smartest and most expensive thermostat

Do you have a zone system? When you say it kicks on aux after system has been running "so long", sometimes it is determined by temp (and should be), not time.

The Climatouch Brands do all that you are asking for except the .5° in differential.

GeoDan, thanks for the info. Are you running a gshp? If so, what kind? Are you also using the climatouch stat? Which model? How long have you had it? Heard of any issues with  the stat? It looks like the most adjustable stat out there that I've come across.

I do run a GSHP  you can see the details here .

I have been using the Climatouch Stat for about 2 years.   I install them for all of my customers.    Model # CT0-7TC-32.

You can buy one here.  You need to scroll down the page to see the tstat.

Aux heat is controlled by the tstat. Some will tell you when it is on some don't.

Some will only tell you if programmed to tell you. There is not one sure fire way to know.

The best bet would be to ask your installer if he is still around.

I have a Honeywell TB8220U which I beleive doesn't show. Sadly after paying my contractor a large amount of money for a new home he is not very helpful. Is there a different thermostat that would be better suited for a Geothermal system? thanks, Mike

I use a Climatouch tstat.  It will tell you when aux heat is on,  as long as you set it up right.

Climatouch Part #: CT0-7TC-32

You can buy it here for  $81.00
