I am concerned my geothermal operating costs are to high. I have a 2000 sq ft ranch home with cathedral ceilings and an unfinished basement.  I built the home in summer of 2008 with efficiency in mind...  the exterior 2x4 walls were furred out to 2x6 with 2" polystyrene strips between the studs and the osb. We then insulated with 1200psi cellulose. The Daylight basement was wrapped in 4x8 sheets of 2" foam all the way down to the pea gravel. And the windows I chose are Strassburger out of Canada (.21 U rating).  ...My first winter electric bills were 250. then 335. I can only fear what the next one will bring as the past few weeks have been ice cold.  Does this seem normal? I was expecting less...

You should post this on the "geothermal heat pump" forum on this site.

Need much more info about system

Size, tonnage, thermostat setpoints, type of loop, loop temperatures, calculated building load, use of aux heat strips, geographic location, cost of electricity, to name some.

Was a blower door test ever run?
