So I got the bill from last month's usage for electric. I have used 2,207 KW from last month which was so cold compare to last year. My electric bill was $383 with .11 cents per KW. Our house is 2 story with basement with less than 2000 SF in North New Jersey.

Do you mind sharing your number?

This is absolutely not scientific, but here goes...

We are running three systems (two 2-ton and one 5-ton climatemaster) on a 5500sqft++ house) southeastern pa (Quakertown area)
All geothermal heating is on separate meter (includes pumps)

December 21 through Jan 22 was 2756kwh.  PPL Utilities -- $281 with taxes/etc...

Jan 22 through Feb 12 was 1097kwh. (PPL Utilities $112 for 1/22-2/12)....

We are averaging between $5/day this month to $7/day last month just for geothermal (on a relatively large home). Compare this to 300gallons of oil every month (dec - march) last year at todays price of approx $2.75 - $280 / gallon!

Geothermal wins....

We have a 4 ton unit picking up the majority of our heating. From Dec 12th to Jan 16th we used a total of 4046 kw off peak, 3 kw on peak, generated 56.4kw via solar and used 28.4 therms of natural gas, total bill was $298. We had 1602 HDD during this timewith an adverage temp of 14F or -10C The house is 2100 sq ft on the main floor with a bedroom, livingroom and pool room in the basement.  Average house temp of 73 (my wife)
Green Bay, WI. - 4 ton horizontal goethermal, 16k gallon indoor pool, 3kw solar PV setup, 2 ton air to air HP, 3400 sq ft

Montreal had 951 heating degree days (= 1712 HDD in Fahrenheit) and we used 3710kWh. Average temperature was -14C during that entire period. We have a 3.5ton ClimateMaster Genesis with 10kW aux heating. Balance point is around -13C before the aux heating comes on. House is 111 years old, brick+stone construction, virtually no insulation but air leakage addressed as far as we could so far and is 1950 square feet plus 950 square foot basement also heated. Thermostat is set at 71F (21.6C) 24/7. Cost of the electricity was Can$260 (note that the 3710 is total usage). Gas bill for the same period (we use gas for cooking and hot water with the GSHP providing preheat) total, taxes and supply and metering included, Can$20.50 (yes, twenty dollars). Not too shabby!

From January 1 - February 5, 2,683kwh used for geo, at $0.09/kwh ($241 total).

3,800 sqft home, leaky sliding glass doors, 8 ton FHP. Average house temp 66°F, average outdoor temp 18°F. I have a 3-degree setback in the evenings, with 68° daytime temps. I also supplement with wood during the single-digit days. I'm in the Fingerlakes region.

Great for all those people who have low rate on electricity! I guess my usage isn't that bad..just the cost of electricity is high.

Keep it going peeps!

1st use of heat was 27Oct08.

Since then unit has run 595 hours 1st stage only at approx 1.75 kw. HDD 27Oct to 12Feb has been 1019 (using Gainesville, FL NWS data)

Backing out DSH at 10% diversion and its 85 watt pump works out to about 900 kwh, approx $100 at local rate.

House has 2700 SF heated area.

Summer cooling is much worse than heating here - it'll cost about $200 from May through October, but part of that is offset by DSH, essentially free all summer since it reduces heat rejection and does not extend run cycles as it does in 'winter'.

A Tranquility 27 3 ton replaced a 100,000 BTUh propane furnace last October. For Jan, electricity used to provide heat and hot water at my house in Michigan cost $110. Electricity usage for the same period was is 0.36 WH/SF/HDD.

Nov-08 $222.37 1537
Dec-08 $340.61 2365
Jan-09 $403.78 2810

This is what I have tracked so far since my system has been installed. The house is two stories, about 3,500 sq ft, located in South Jersey. This is some what higher than I expected. I have a 4 ton Water Furnace downstairs and the poor fortune to have a Air Source Heat Pump for my 2nd floor zone. I don't know how much of the bill is the Geo.

Tech, we're in the same state. Is PSEG your utility provider too? Our numbers are close.

We had oil heat in the past. Geo unit has been installed last November. Our usage of oil last year was about 500 gallon equal to almost $2000 and the winter was not as harsh this year. Looks like we'll be saving half of that but winter isn't over yet. I will keep updating my number on heating bill up to March.

Atlantic City Electric, I lived in this house for a year, but the system broke in the summer and had to get it replaced. I don't have figures for last year, but they didn't seem so high... then again I was playing around a lot with setbacks, so I really don't have a good baseline to compare number against.

Dec 31st to Feb 6th was 3270kWh for heat pump, loop pumps, and hydronic side pumps only. HDD was approximately 2000 for the same period. Cost was somewhere around $.11/kWh. That's for a relatively poorly insulated 1850 vintage house in the Finger Lakes region, about 3400 sq. ft (but not all heated currently).

Oil use for the same period in 2006 was 305 gallons for only 1600HDD. So if I was still burning oil I would have used about 380 gallons this year.

Nov 2008 hdd 862 $135 for electric, 1160 kwhr's
Dec 2008 hdd 1234 $227 for electric, 2036 kwhrs
Jan 2009 hdd 1589 $319 for electric, 2723 kwhrs

These numbers include home appliances, lights ect, I estimate those at about $100 per month, we have yet to recieve Feb
billing. We have a 5 ton geocomfort in a 1500 sq ft home near Grand Rapids Mich. Propane usage would of been huge for those
months our budget payments would of been $284 a month for propane
1500 sq ft home with 5 ton Geocomfort heat pump<br>desuperheater,3200ft of horz loop. Howard city,MI.

r3tro74, seems like your electric rate is very cheap. We used up 2,207 KW and our bill is $383. Great savings!
