Anyone hear something about geothermal system tax credits not being available for systems that are water to water distributions? I have been told that water to air distributions are the only qualifier. Input?

My understanding is that is currently correct. There are no water to water units that meet the current Energy Star requirements. I also understand that the Energy Star requirements are being revised and that some w to w units might meet the revised criteria. The revisions were suppose to have been completed by now but are delayed and not yet out. They are suppose to be out sometime in the near future.

ENERGY STAR states that water-to-water units can not qualify for the tax credit because they can not earn the ENERGY STAR criteria, BUT many do. The minimum qualifications are: >=3.3 COP and >=14.1 EER. There are many units out their that meet these ratings. ENERGY STAR says that in order for the units to qualify thay must meet these requirements, and some do, then they turn around and say that water-to-water units do not qualify.

I think it is time for folks to join me with these finding and have ENERGY STAR pull back their statement that these units do not qualify.

Please let me know if you agree or disagree because I don't buy the statement that these units can not qualify.

Thanks,

Rick

See these contradictory links (meaning one answer says water-to-water units can earn the ENERGY STAR while another says that they can not):

I can't get your links to work...

I manually searched for the FAQ #'s you quote on the Energy Star FAQ site and the questions don't seem to be the same ones you were looking at (don't appear to be relevant).

Can you find the FAQ's you are referring to, and copy them into a post ?

Looks like there have been some additional questions answered or something, but anyhow I just checked the FAQ numbers and now they are: FAQ 96, 171, 191, anmd 359.

Thanks for the reply

The links work if you copy the link text paste in to the browser line on the top of your screen then delete the part about the FAQ number.

Perhaps they heard you as WTW systems are soon to be rated.
Usual tax credit language requires that it must be Energy Star rated at the time of installation so I suggest that people wait a little longer.
