I live in Windsor Ontario and am in the process of getting Quotations for replacing my 20 year old 4 ton two stage Water Furnace. The government has given some great incentives to replace old furnaces and I have been told that the life span of these Furnaces are roughly 20 Years. Having said that, the furnace is still working perfectly.

My Questions are:

Should I change from the Water Furnace brand?

Are any better than the other?

I have quotes this far from

Water Furnace
Bard Geo Tech
Next Energy Tranquality
Florida Heat Pump
Northern Heat Pump

I am really happy with Water Furnace, but do not know much about the other furnaces.

If your current installer still sells geo, I would look no further (as long as their pricing is good) since you have had a great success with them.
Homeowner with WF Envision NDV038 (packaged) & NDZ026 (split), one 3000' 4 pipe closed horizontal ground loop, Prestige thermostats, desuperheaters, 85 gal. Marathon.

I am working right across the river from you in Grosse Pointe Park on a 6 ton vertical. I'll wave when I get on site!

If you noticed the "shoppers checklist" at the top of these threads, myself and other contributors placed brand last on the list of things for a reason. There are of course dissenting opinions, but many of us felt brand had very little importance with few exceptions. I see none of the exceptions in your list, though I have no experience with Northern.
Next Energy (Climatemaster) is the biggest seller. Bard just started making their 2 stage unit a couple years ago. It has fewer integrated controls which makes it simpler to service (which is among the reasons we chose it to market to Do It Yourselfers). All have same compressor, similar components and sometimes a common engineering staff.

Your best chance satisfaction will be based on the dealer you choose. If the one that put your system in 20 years ago is available and you have been happy with them, they and their product should have "home field advantage" over other bidders, even if they cost a bit more.

Good Luck,
Joe
