After a few years of probelms with the Tranquiilty 27 - 6 ton system, they replaced it early last year.  At least it is keeping the house warm now, but I still question a few things.  Most are related to the thermostat, which is a VisionPRO 8000 (TH8320U-1008).

1) Does this thermostat indicate when 2nd stage is running?  I though the "aux heat" display meant 2nd stage, but I belive this indicates when the heat packs are fired.

2) Can the thermostat be configured to turn on 2nd stage when the temp falls below x number of degrees from the desired temp, and then the emergency heat when it falls below y degrees from the desired temp?  I thought this was the case, but not clear in the confuration.

3) The Thermostat "aux" terminal and "y" terminal are both wired to the "Y1" terminal on the unit.  I dont understand why this is.  Any explanation from anyone?

This morning, the temp reading on the thermostat was 70 degrees.  Even though the desired temp was set to 68, it was still running stage 2 with the heat packs.  I dont understand why stage 2 or the head packs would be running if the desired temp is the current temp or above.  I would like to run the unit in stage 1 until it falls behind by 2 degrees, and then kick on stage 2.  If it falls behind 4 degrees, then turn the aux heat on.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

1) No, it does not indicate the stage. 2) Yes, you can change the setting. 3) I don't know why, It does not sound right. Y1 into Y1, Y2 into Y2, Emergency Heat (W) into (W). No rocket science. Seems like your wiring is causing your symptoms. Change it first, then decide if you still want to change the setpoints. The way it is wired the aux heat should never turn on. However, that does not explain all your symptoms. So it appears important to check the rest of the wiring. I have seen it that the rest of the connection all were moved one over once one is wrong.

The Honeywell swtats have letters above and below the terminal strip indicating their use in conventional (top) or heat pump (bottom) configurations.
Make sure you didn't mis read.
