Our expensive WaterFurnace geothermal system failed after only 18 months when our previous heat pump serviced us for 18 years without any service calls.  While the WR part was replaced under warrantee, the cost of a service call was not covered.  Complaints directed to customer service at WaterFurnace did not address the quality and reliability of their product as stated on their website and in their brochure.   WaterFurnace does not take pride in the quality of their product and they are not customer-service oriented.  Buy a ClimateMaster.

No, your contractor did not take care of you. WaterFurnace comes standard with a 10 year parts and labor warranty, if your unit did not then its because your contractor backed their warranty out to make his price lower. If it was a part in the loop that failed that is not made by WaterFurnace it was bought from another manufacturer or installed improperly. What part was replaced, it could be due to the installer or something not even related to WaterFurnace, read this board you will find MANY problems with the Tranquality 27 unit so you may have been better off you may have been worse of, it depends more on the installation company than the equipment even more so with geothermal than with air to air heat pumps in my opinion.

I dont' mean to come off as rude but your claim has no basis and no sound information. As a contractor I hear complaints from people like you day in and day out and very rarely is it the equipment manufacturer, its usually the installer or the homeowner, did you chance filters every 3 months, did you reuse a loop that was to small, is your ductwork failing and you didn't care to fix it?

Please give me more information because I don't feel very sympathetic to this biased claim as a contractor and others reading this board will feel the same way.

most here are unafraid to criticize brand. most here are also going to ask for specifics when someone complains.
most here will also suggest it is dealer not manufacturer that is in charge of your satisfaction.

here is what I see happening to manufacturing in general.....More features and less quality from GM to John Deere to General Electric. Think off shore manufacturing. Not picking on the 3 as I personally have had experience with these recently and have all been related to parts made in China. Wonder where the TXV valve in question is made.
Lighten up on the home owner as they bought premium system unfortunately from a less than stellar contractor.. I don't know of any of the large hvac mfg that would tolerate their distributors not stocking parts or to be able to pull one in.

Homeowner has to perform due diligence / share in responsibility for a less than stellar contractor.

For my own part it is difficult to imagine presenting a bill for a failure 18 months out unless the client set it on fire or sufferred a flood.
