I am finishing hot water portion of geo project. I have a 120 gal tank to hook to the hot water load connection of a 6 ton Geo Comfort unit. It has NPT fittings. Is there any information on site to show hookup. ie type and sizing of connecting pipe, which ports to use,to and from geo unit and in floor manifolds, sizing of pump etc. Thanks,Terry

In the geocomfort installation guide it should provide you with diagrams on how to properly plumb your desuperheater and storage tank.

Thanks, I did go online to see if Geocomfort had changed their info but its the same as what I got last year when i purchased the unit. Would 1 inch copper pipe be the size to use in between the heatpump and the storage tank. What size of a pump would be proper. Terry

My plumber used 1" copper between the heatpump and the storage tank, a 1/6 hp Bell & Gossett bronze pump.

Is your 120 gal tank an electric tank or one designed for multiple connections?

A Grundfos 26-99 and a 1" coper pipe with the tank close to the Heatpump will give you about 13 gpm flow, more than enough to transfer the 50-60 KBTU a 6 ton heatpump makes, into the tank.

You can check the numbers yourself, here is a similar system is online.

ChrisJ, The tank has multiple 2"NPT fittings. I presume thats for hooking several in line. Theres one at the bottom, one up 12"(which is 4" below aquastat level) one at 40" and one at top near 60". I'm thinking of using the one at 40" to put the hot water to but not sure which of the bottom two to use as a draw. I don't mind being told that I'm doing something wrong. Thanks to all those who have replyed. Terry

The tank ports should be identified. What is the make and model of the tank. Without being there the lowest port should be the cold and the 60' should be the hot water out to the home. The two in the middle then would be from the geo.
