I'm in the process of framing out some return air chases in my home under construction and I was looking at various manufacturers return air grilles and return air filter grilles. I don't care much for the look of the stamped steel return grilles that you typically find at Home Depot or Lowes and was looking more at the fixed flat blade type grilles. A few google searches turned up Hart & Cooley and Shoemaker as a couple of manufacturers of interest. Comparing similar sized fixed blade return air filter grilles, 14"x14" and 20"x20", the Shoemaker 920 FG grilles have slightly better air flow characteristics compared to the equivalent Hart & Cooley 96AFB. Hart & Cooley are available from the local HVAC equipment wholesaler, but no one here handles Shoemaker, but I can order the Shoemaker grilles online. Does anyone have any experience with Shoemaker return air grilles? The following is a link to the return air filter grille I'm interested in:
