Guys, I have a climate master 5ton water to water geo with a standing column open source set up. The system was designed by a distributor and installed by me. Some numbers....well-500' deep with a static of 30-40' replenish rate of 7gpm and we never out draw it so static remains in that range. The distributor spec'd a 1.5hp 25gpm pump with a 15gpm restrictor on the return line from the geo. water temp draws between 55-47deg at 47 my bleed kicks in bringing it back to over 50deg. I use this well and pump for domestic water also so I need pressure to run my home. since my install I have learned a lot. I have changed the restrictor to 10gpm and reduced the pump to a 15gpm 1hp. but I still think I can do much better. I only require 8-10gpm for the geo and my static remains around 35'....I have been reading about ecm pumps and also considering using a smaller pump and a booster for domestic. I am looking for efficiency. By lowering my original pump from 1.5hp to 1hp I saved $100/month on electric and think I still can go smaller and save more. any ideas or recommendations?? XSCASH

Look into Grundfos SQE line of pumps.
When we do a open loop install..... It's our only pump option.
I would tell you to you look into a 22sqe10-190. It is a variable speed motor, constant pressure pumping system. Without knowing your water needs, or habits I think the 1hp pump would fit your situation good. You may be able to go down to a 3/4 hp model pump if your very cautious of water usage.

I agree - Grundfos SQE. And check the specs carefully so that you get one where the efficiency is well matched to your GPM and PSI (design matters even with a variable speed pump). Perhaps SQ7. Add a booster pump so that you aren't wasting energy pressurizing the geo water to 60 psi.

Thanks for you responses, is it any better with efficiency by going with a booster instead of sqe? I've been trying to catch up on both

I would personally just go with the SQE and not use a booster pump too.
