Hi All, I have had 5 ton Envision Dual Speed Waterfurnace. In November, I can home to a furnace running in aux...long story short, there was a refrigerant leak in the coil. Once the coil was pulled it was repaired. The weather has been ridiculously cold thru December and January, so we avoided pulling the furnace apart to get the coil replaced. The coil was put in place, the system was evacuated and recharged. When the unit was brought online, the compressor seemed to sound a little funny and it would go in overload. The entire time the pressures looked fine....until it tripped the overload. Anyways, it looks like the compressor is shot.....im not sure what else is going to be a problem if the compressor gets replaced, so I'm exploring replacement options. There seems to be lots of options, with waterfurnace being the priciest. Does anyone have comments on other comparable brands.....Climatemaster, Geocool, not sure what else is an option to drop in. Any thoughts?

How long have you had it and is it still under warranty?

Hopefully you understand Geothermal is like high roller gambling. No shortage of failures and pissed off customers. Lots of law suites and little successful recovered judgments since the companies always become insolvent. Just put in a electric or gas boiler and put 10 grand on red in LV roulette table and you have same outcome chance as doing Geothermal.

What brand does the HVAC/refrigeration people that changed the coil offer? Get one with a 10 yr parts & labor warranty.

Geocool might be single stage and I would stay away.

I replaced mine with a Heat Controller (re-badge of a Climatemaster) If I need warranty work I will go through the distributor that delivered the unit.

icfbound- for every 10 people that come on the web and complain about their GEO there are thousands of happy customers! Squeaky wheel.

I've had it for 11, maybe 12 years, so out of warranty. It has been a great investment and worth every penny. I'm seeing similar spec'd units as the Envision I had, for roughly 30-50% less cost....all seem to have a 10 year warranty...but as most warranties that comes down to redeeming. I'm looking for alternate brands that people are happy with both in actual performance (and warranty claims....as I know things do manage to break). For comparable specs....it seems a pretty high premium to get the waterfurnace...

Enertech makes Hydron Module and Geo Comfort, They have good warranties.

The dealer only sales of Waterfurnace help keep their prices higher.

We installed them all. Climatemaster made units and all their clones, and also Enertec (Hydron) etc.

Ended up and stayed with Waterfurnace, thus far not 100% perfect but giving us the least amount of trouble. Once you put in a few hundred per year you get a certain perspective. Just had the offer to go with other brands at half price, could have significantly increased our profit margin. Not worth it, trouble free running is the most important aspect of doing geo.
