I'm not so sure it would be good with the soils in my area, but I wonder if anyone else is using this method instead of traditional footings:

Superior Walls uses clean, tamped gravel under their precast walls.  I do not know of anyone in my area using trenches filled with rubble.

Have you done a soils test. Start there - and let a soils engineer advise how to make your building stable. You may have bentonite clay or other expansive soils . If you have stable soils the tamped rock works great. It is easy to do - important to drain away from the building, make sure it is tamped to the engineers specs ( say 90# compression ) then make sure it is level by using a transit.
