Hi all, I am a marketing researcher looking to interview individuals who have a Greywater Recycling System installed in their home. This is more specifically for systems which re-use the water to flush toilets. The interviews will be in person, approximately 45 minutes long and you will be compensated for your time. If you are interested, please send me an PM through GreenBuildingTALK including your location, type of system you have and how long it has been installed. Thanks, Stacey.

The concept is that you divert the water from your shower and bathtub, and sometimes other fixtures like laundry to a holding tank in the home, basically a separate drainage system from your sanitary drain. A minimal amount of treatment is done to the water such as filtration and disinfection to prevent the growth of bacteria and pathogens. The greywater is then pumped to the toilets for flushing. In a nutshell, you are flushing toilets with recycled shower water. In most homes, this will save you 30% on your water usage (and also on your sewer charge). Depending on where you live in the country and your local water rate,as well as your current use patterns this can save you $300 to $1000+ per year. More importantly, it is also a big step towards reducing our water footprint. This was previously not allowed by most building codes, but with the recent introduction of the new green codes (IgCC and IAPMO Green) this is now allowed in many areas as these systems have proven to be very safe. I hope this helps.
