I know that it is important to re-coat with the appropriate type of paint, but I'm not sure what I have here. The house is 42 years old, cinder block construction, and it appears to have never been painted. It does have a sprayed on, cement based, coating, similar looking to the 'popcorn' looking stuff they were using on ceilings back in the same era.

It has some cracking and chips, but not too serious. I want to address the repairs and then paint the exterior. My question is: What is this stuff??

I need to find some good vapor permeable paint to refinish the house.

Going to try to add some pic's...

I can't seem to add the pictures ("file type not allowed" JPEG) so if you want to see them, I could email them to anybody that wants to see them

thanks for the help.

You could do a test spot repair with stucco mix.

I don't want to do a stucco finish; I just want to paint over what's there. HOw is stucco mix applied? I just want to spray and back roll. Thanks, Mark
