I am a retailer for green home improvement products and we have fairly strict filters for what we sell. We currently only carry porcelain or ceramic that has at least 20% recycled content. I am considering handmade, non-fired cement tiles and have been looking for data on energy usage in comparison with traditional production to see if these are truly a green product, or if it is just green-washing. Anyone have insight to share?

Hydraulic cement tiles are typically made in Central America. Don't porcelain and ceramic typically come from Asia and Europe?

With portland cement, the limestone has to be heated. Clay is fired directly. So while I don't know details, I'd guess similar "green" ratings.
