In California, evidently there's a state checklist to show insulation was installed correctly:
http://www.energy.ca.gov/title24/20...nStage.pdf
and before you install insulation there's another checklist to show the air barrier was installed correctly:
http://www.energy.ca.gov/title24/2013standards/res_compliance_forms/CF3R/2013-CF3R-ENV-21-HERS-QII-FramingStage-Batt,Loose,Fill,SPF.pdf
There seems to be an overview of the process at
http://www.energycodeace.com/site/custom/public/reference-ace-2013/index.html#!Documents/ra35qualityinsulationinstallationprocedures.htm
The city seems to require those for new construction (search for RA3.5):
http://ladbs.org/LADBSWeb/LADBS_Forms/PlanCheck/2014/2014LAAmendmentforGreenBuildingCode.pdf
And their LEED document mentions it, too:
http://planning.lacity.org/Forms_Procedures/2102.pdf
So, my question: do people do this when adding insulation in an existing uninsulated attic? Presumably, if I want it done right, but I wonder if my contractor will think I'm nuts for asking for it. (As I mentioned in an earlier post, we're replacing the roof and insulating the attic, and his early draft proposal doesn't mention anything about HERS inspectors, etc.)
EDIT: according to http://greencomplianceplus.markengl...-remodels/ you have to do this stuff to comply with "Title 24", for any project in California that replaces the roof, HVAC, or water heater, adds conditioned space, or a few other kinds of changes.
So Title 24 *will* be involved on this job, if only to prove the roof is a cool roof.
Now I feel a little better informed, if still somewhat overwhelmed.
