Hi folks, I built a SIPs house ten years ago, and I love it. But I made some serious mistakes in the layout. The staircase should be going in the opposite direction. I was wondering if I could avoid ripping out the old staircase entirely, but rather just take out the top part, and leave the old staircase bottom part. So, basically, just punch a hole in the current staircase and build a new staircase going in the opposite direction. I used to live in Japan, and I often saw staircases there that have storage under the stairs.I think they were called "tansu." The storage areas are essentially drawers under each step.Or rather, each drawer IS a step. I thought if I left the bottom part of the old staircase I could make storage drawers like that using the old steps. I'm just wondering if simply punching a hole in the old staircase would make sense, or not. Would it save any effort, money? Thanks for any input.
