Has anyone knowledge of any work on solar powered pool pumps?  I have a pool in Hawaii that requires the filter pump to run 6-8 hours per day.  Plenty of sun in HI and high electricity costs, seems like a natural for solar.

Look into a small 1/12th or 1/6th hp pump ($200-$300). Run it about 6-8 hours (1.5-2KWH) and your regular pump about 1-2 hours (~1.5-2.5 KWHR). This will reduce your electrical cost about 50% overall and probably has a much faster payback than solar pumps. You may also have less pool maintenance issues.
